Superlo leases former Schnucks grocery building in Southaven

Superlo Supermarkets has leased the former Schnucks grocery building at 975 Goodman Road in the Southaven Commons shopping center, according to Shawn Massey and Robert Sloan of The Shopping Center Group.

The building was vacated in September when Schnucks pulled out of the Memphis market and sold most of its buildings to Kroger. The Southaven site was one of three Schnucks properties not acquired by Kroger, which already had two stores nearby. The new Superlo will be open in the first quarter of 2012. It would have opened before this holiday season, but the Schnucks lease runs through January, said Massey, a partner in The Shopping Center Group. Memphis-based Superlo is backed by the distribution capabilities of the national supermarket wholesaler, AWG.

“This shows the strength of the Southaven trade area that this well located retail big box was quickly picked up,” Massey said in a prepared statement. Similar large Southaven spaces recently vacated by Circuit City, Linens ’n Things, World Market and Sportsman’s Warehouse have also been quickly refilled by new tenants, Massey said. Proposals are out for another 24,000 square feet of leased space in Southaven Commons to two national tenants who were waiting on the final announcement of the Superlo deal, Massey said.

Superlo has five stores in Memphis: 4744 Spottswood, 2155 Covington Pike, 3327 N. Watkins, 6532 Winchester, and 3942 Macon Road.
