Remke bigg’s Transfers In-Store Prescription Business to Concentrate on Fresh Food and Quality Service

Customer prescriptions to transfer to Walgreens

Remke bigg’s today announced it is transferring all of its prescription business to Walgreens effective May 21, 2013, to more fully concentrate on its core business – fresh food and quality service.

Since 1897 Remke bigg’s has served our customers by providing outstanding quality products, with an emphasis on impeccable service and commitment to community.

“The pharmacy industry has changed to the point that there needed to be an investment into upgrading our systems to keep pace with the industry and to serve our customers at the level we felt was necessary to continue our legacy of exceptional service,” said Remke bigg’s CEO Bill Remke. “This investment would have distracted us from our main goal of delivering high quality, fresh food, local products and outstanding service.”

“As we reflected on our goal, this transition is a natural fit with our heritage and how our business originated – started by my family in 1897,” Remke added. “Our pharmacy business, while a convenient service, did not support this core.”

Remke bigg’s has always focused on fresh and local foods and outstanding service since its founding. As it returns to its roots, they will continue to offer a professional butcher in every store, sources produce locally when possible, and offers freshly made bakery, homemade deli selections and expanded organic offerings, expanded health, beauty care and wellness products, along with lower prices.

Remke bigg’s prescription files will transfer to Walgreens May 21, 2013 through a seamless process, with no interruption in service and care. Customers will find that Walgreens has many convenient offerings including extended pharmacy hours, a nationwide network, drive-thru locations, auto refill reminders, text messaging alerts and both refills online and through mobile phone apps. Some stores offer nurse practitioner-staffed Take Care Clinics. Your pharmacy records will be at the nearest Walgreens location, but you can get your prescriptions filled at any Walgreens.

“We’ve served residents of Ohio and Northern Kentucky for decades and we look forward to providing Remke biggs’ pharmacy customers with great service for years to come,” said Patrick Hawthorne, Walgreens market vice president in Ohio. “We want to make this a seamless transition for patients, and our pharmacists will be able to serve them with care and convenience. Patient prescription files will be transferred to Walgreens, allowing our pharmacists to check for potential drug interactions and counsel patients about their medications.”

Customers may call (859) 594-3400 with questions about their prescription transfers. For more information about Walgreens, visit walgreens.com/Remke.

“The human resource staffs from Remke bigg’s and Walgreens are working together to see that as many of our pharmacy associates as possible are assimilated into Walgreens or other positions at Remke bigg’s,” Remke said.
